Sarah Michelle Rupert is a visual artist and art professional living and working in South Florida. Working in photo-based media, Rupert’s work has appeared in exhibitions in Miami and Hollywood non-profit spaces Locust Projects and the Art and Culture Center of Hollywood, in galleries in New York, Miami and Gainesville, Florida. Her work depicts the confused state of contemporary feminism, ensuing from the bombardment of mixed messages transmitted by popular mass media and television culture.

Rupert received her MA in Visual Arts Administration from the Steinhardt School at New York University and her BFA in Creative Photography and Art History from the University of Florida. She is currently the Gallery Director at Girls’ Club, a non-profit art foundation and exhibition space in Fort Lauderdale with a special emphasis on the contribution of women to the field of contemporary art, as well as the Administrator at Funding Arts Broward (FAB!), a non-profit foundation dedicated to supporting innovative local visual and performing arts organizations in Broward County.

Discussion will revolve around artists opportunities in private collections, art centers and other non-profit art organizations, with a focus on South Florida. The recent growth of this peripheral art sector in Miami and its neighboring counties has been unprecedented. These organizations, many of them artist-found and run, are in existence to help spur artistic practice and appreciation and can be important steps in young artists’ growth and success.
